Mailing list off-line

Tablix mailing list tablix-list is currently off-line because of a spam problem.

I'm looking for a solution for this problem, but I'm a bit short on time so it will probably take a week or two. The list hasn't been very active lately, so I hope this isn't too big of an inconvenience.

In the mean time, please do not send mail to the mailing list, or try to subscribe. All mail sent to is logged, but any legitimate mail will probably be lost in the large amount of spam.

And if you can suggest a good, secure and light-weight mailing list manager, please drop me a mail.

New Debian package repository

I've set up a new repository of Debian packages at The old one wasn't available after the security compromise of the web server two months ago.

The new repository uses a GPG key to sign the packages so your apt installation should be able to detect whether a package has been tampered with while it has been stored on the server.

Instructions for setting up your /etc/apt/sources.list and importing the GPG key: stable builds, weekly automatic builds of the latest CVS version.

Debian packages temporarily unavailable

Administrators at Cyberpipe are currently investigating a security compromise in one of Cyberpipe's servers.

It is possible but unlikely that Tablix Debian binary packages (stable and development snapshots) that are hosted at have been tampered with. Until I can be sure that the packages have not been modified by anyone I have removed them from publicly accessible directories.

Because of the same reason the ISO images of the Tablix on Morphix distribution and the Jorell web service are currently unavailable.

Packages hosted at and the CVS repository have not been affected and are still accessible. You can also still download the official Debian packages of Tablix from any Debian mirror.

New hardware

A month ago Cyberpipe donated a dedicated Xen virtual machine running on a host with four AMD Opteron processors to the Tablix project. This made several nice things possible:

Debian packages for the amd64 architecture built from CVS snapshots are now available from the Cyberpipe's server.

Jorell Tablix web front-end got upgraded. The new version fixes several bugs fixed and enables you to choose your preferred output format for your timetable. The average waiting times also dropped significantly, since the new dedicated machine is able to process one timetable per hour (compared to the previous 3 timetables per day).

Comments disabled

I disabled user comments on the home page.

In approximately one year no actual comments to any news item were posted and the comments system recently became a target for spammers.

Hard disk crash

Sometime around 11 July while I was on vacation hard disk and motherboard in my server failed. Since I'm in a hurry (I'm leaving again tomorrow) I threw together a temporary server and restored the system from the last backup. will get a new server in August when I'll get back from Wikimania.

Mails sent to the mailing list after 4 July are missing from the mailing list archive. CVS repository on the other hand is currently up to date thanks to a mirror repository I keep on another machine. If you have any problems using services at, please drop me a mail.

Debian packages updated

The script that had been updating the repository of Debian packages with weekly CVS snapshots has been broken since I forked the 0.2.x branch in the CVS.

Today I've finally managed to fix it so that packages are now once again updated each Sunday morning. Branch 0.2.x is available alongside 0.1.x under package name tablix2 (it should be possible to install both tablix and tablix2 packages in parallel).

More server downtime

I will be installing this piece of hardware I designed into my server during the weekend. I also plan to use this opportunity and install a new kernel and some other stuff that needs the server offline.

I'll try to keep the downtime to a minimum. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Mailing list archive fixed

Mailing list archive should now be working correctly. The problem was that modification time of files was changed when the archive was moved from one server to the other.

Sending messages to should now also work, but the old address is still valid.

New home page

Tablix has a new home page. I registered domain a few days ago and I have also set up a new server (my old 486 that was serving mailing list archive and the Wiki was getting a bit too slow to handle all the traffic). I am slowly moving pages from the old server to the new one.

Wiki should already be functional at the new address. Mailing list archive is currently on line, but shows every posts two times. I'm currently investigating what is the cause of this. Mailing list itself will still stay at the old address for at least a week.

Any comments or suggestions about this new page are welcome.
