Mailing list off-line

Tablix mailing list tablix-list is currently off-line because of a spam problem.

I'm looking for a solution for this problem, but I'm a bit short on time so it will probably take a week or two. The list hasn't been very active lately, so I hope this isn't too big of an inconvenience.

In the mean time, please do not send mail to the mailing list, or try to subscribe. All mail sent to tablix-list@tablix.org is logged, but any legitimate mail will probably be lost in the large amount of spam.

And if you can suggest a good, secure and light-weight mailing list manager, please drop me a mail.

Using Bash completion

If you're running Tablix in GNU/Linux you're probably using Bash as your shell. Putting the following three lines in your .bashrc file will make it easier to use Tablix utilities with long command-line options:

complete -o default -W '--functions --conv-fitness --fit-fitness --scale' tablix2_plot
complete -o default -W '--file --dir --multi-file --multi-dir' tablix2_test
complete -o default -W '--single --multiple --graph --multi-graph' tablix2_benchmark

You can then use TAB key to complete options just like filenames. For example to type "tablix2_plot --conv-fitness" you can now only type "tablix2_pTAB --cTAB" and the shell will fill in the missing parts for you.

Tablix 0.3.4 stable release

Besides bug fixes in the kernel and existing modules this release also adds the following new features:

Two fitness modules (minrooms.so and simplesametime.so) that can be used for simple meeting scheduling were added to the distribution (contributed by Seppe vanden Broucke).

Several changes were made to the kernel to make building and using Tablix on Microsoft systems easier: The path to modules can now be changed with a command-line parameter and the module loader automatically determines the file name extension for shared libraries used by the operating system. It is no longer necessary to include '.so' extensions in <module> tags in problem descriptions.

An export module for Gnutu Student's Schedule was also added to the distribution.

Source distribution is available from the usual place. Debian packages (now also for the amd64 architecture) can be downloaded from the new package repository.

New Debian package repository

I've set up a new repository of Debian packages at http://www.kiberpipa.org/~tomaz/tablix/repo. The old one wasn't available after the security compromise of the web server two months ago.

The new repository uses a GPG key to sign the packages so your apt installation should be able to detect whether a package has been tampered with while it has been stored on the server.

Instructions for setting up your /etc/apt/sources.list and importing the GPG key: stable builds, weekly automatic builds of the latest CVS version.

Debian packages temporarily unavailable

Administrators at Cyberpipe are currently investigating a security compromise in one of Cyberpipe's servers.

It is possible but unlikely that Tablix Debian binary packages (stable and development snapshots) that are hosted at www.kiberpipa.org have been tampered with. Until I can be sure that the packages have not been modified by anyone I have removed them from publicly accessible directories.

Because of the same reason the ISO images of the Tablix on Morphix distribution and the Jorell web service are currently unavailable.

Packages hosted at www.tablix.org and the CVS repository have not been affected and are still accessible. You can also still download the official Debian packages of Tablix from any Debian mirror.

Tablix on Windows

Latest version of Tablix can also be compiled on Microsoft Windows. I have made an experimental package for Windows XP that includes Tablix kernel, export utility, some documentation and examples and a simple graphical user interface.

This package hasn't seen much testing since machines running Windows are in minority here. Please report any problems and / or other experiences to the Wiki or to the mailing list.

Release notes, screenshots and download link are available on this Wiki page.

Tablix 0.3.3 stable release

Two header files (style2.h and stripe.h) are missing from the source distribution of the previous release. This results in a compiler error.

This release adds the missing files and also fixes a bug in the DTD file for the XML format of the fitness modules reference documentation.

Source distribution is here. The new Debian package should be identical to the previous release.
